Totems of Undying are essential for any DonutSMP PvP player. They save you from one death — drop your HP to 0, totem activates, you respawn at full HP. Crystal PvP without totems is a death sentence.
Where totems come from
Only one source: Evokers (the wizard mob in raids). Each evoker kill = 100% chance to drop 1 totem. Raids spawn evokers in waves.
Two ways to farm raids
Method 1 — Pillager outpost trigger
- Find a Pillager Outpost (
/locate structure pillager_outpost) - Kill the captain (any pillager wearing a banner)
- Get the "Bad Omen" effect
- Walk into any village
- Raid begins — 5 waves, each with evokers in later waves
Per raid yield: 3-5 totems if you complete all waves.
Method 2 — Iron farm + raid integration
Some players combine an iron farm with a raid farm — kill captain, run to nearby village, complete raid, repeat. Iron + totems same trip.
Surviving the raid
- Wear Netherite armor minimum
- Bring stack of golden apples + healing potions
- Block off village exits so villagers don't die (lose raid = no rewards)
- Use crossbow + multishot for crowd control
- Kill evokers FIRST in each wave (they spawn vexes that destroy your gear)

When to farm vs buy
Farm if:
- You have 60+ minutes available
- You already own Netherite gear
- You enjoy PvE
Buy if:
- You need totems before tonight's PvP session
- You're under-geared
- Your time is worth more than 1M/hr
Most active PvP players buy in bulk — 16 totems for ~1.5M is "rent" for the privilege of not dying.
Common mistakes
- ❌ Letting villagers die during raid (no rewards if village wiped)
- ❌ Not killing evokers first (vexes destroy your gear in seconds)
- ❌ Skipping the captain kill (no Bad Omen = no raid)
- ❌ Raiding without backup totems (irony of dying while farming totems)
Frequently Asked
Can you dual-wield totems? Both hands work, but only one activates at a time. Hold one in offhand.
Do totems decay? No — they last forever in inventory until activated.
