Slime farms produce slimeballs — used for sticky pistons, leads, and magma cream. Steady demand on /order. Here's the complete build and profit guide.

Why slime farms

Slimeballs sell for ~80 coins each on /order. Demand is consistent because:

  • Sticky pistons (8 slimeballs per piston) → redstone builds
  • Leads → animal management
  • Magma cream → fire resistance potions

Real revenue: ~3-5M coins/hour at full output.

Two types of slime farms

Type 1 — Slime Chunk farm

Slimes spawn naturally in specific "slime chunks" below Y=40. Find one, build a farm there.

Setup:

Yield: ~1,000-2,000 slimeballs/hour

Type 2 — Swamp farm

Slimes spawn in swamp biomes at night (Y=51-69, light level 7 or less).

Setup:

  • Find a swamp biome
  • Build a platform at Y=60
  • Make it dark (block out light)
  • Push slimes to kill chamber

Yield: ~500-1,000 slimeballs/hour (less than slime chunks due to limited area)

For dedicated production, slime chunks beat swamp farms ~2x in output. Use the slime chunk finder, find one in a safe area, build a farm.

Build steps (slime chunk farm)

  1. Find your slime chunk via chunk-finder tool
  2. Mine bedrock-up to Y=40, clearing the entire chunk
  3. Light up adjacent chunks so only your chunk has spawn potential
  4. Build kill chamber with magma block or 22-block fall
  5. Hopper collection under kill chamber
  6. Auto-/sell macro for slimeballs

Optimal farm dimensions

The slime chunk is 16×16. Use the full size, with kill chamber at one end.

Build:

  • 16×16 spawning floor (just bedrock-cleared chunk)
  • Funnel walls pushing slimes to 1×1 hole
  • Drop to kill chamber 22 blocks below
  • Hopper minecarts collecting drops

Yield comparison

Farm type Slime/hour Sell price Coins/hr
Slime chunk farm 1,500-2,000 80 each 120k-160k
Swamp farm 600-1,000 80 each 50k-80k

Hmm, slime farms aren't actually high-tier income compared to spawners. They're decent if you need slimeballs for personal use + sell surplus.

When slime farms are worth it

You need slimeballs for your own redstone buildsYou already have a slime chunk in your base areaYou're stacking multiple low-tier farms for combined income

You'd be better off with an Iron Golem spawner (8-15M/hr vs slime's 0.1-0.2M/hr)

The honest verdict

Slime farms are niche. If you have a slime chunk and need slimeballs anyway, build one. Otherwise, buy slimeballs as needed and put your build effort into higher-tier farms.

For pure income: skip slime farms, build Iron Golem spawner.

Frequently Asked

Can slimes spawn anywhere, or only slime chunks? Both — anywhere below Y=40 in dark slime chunks, OR Y=51-69 in swamps. The slime chunks give consistent output.

Do slime farms work in modded versions? Yes — slime chunk algorithm hasn't changed in recent versions.

Can I get magma cream from slimes? No — magma cubes drop magma cream, not regular slimes. Build a Nether magma cube farm for that.

Best slime ball use? Crafting sticky pistons. Sticky pistons sell for 1k coins each on /order (8 slimeballs = 640 coins worth → 1k coins crafted = 360 coin profit per piston).
