DonutSMP /pay Command — How to Send Coins Safely

/pay <player> <amount> is the universal way to send coins between players on DonutSMP. Most transactions go smoothly. Some lead to scams or typo losses. Here's how to use it safely.

How /pay works

Syntax: /pay <player_name> <amount>

Example: /pay JohnDoe 250000 sends 250,000 coins to player JohnDoe.

The coins are deducted from your balance immediately. There's no confirmation prompt and no way to reverse the transaction. Once sent, it's gone.

The most common /pay scams

1. Username confusion

• Scammer creates an account with a name similar to a friend
• "Hey can you /pay me back the 5M I lent?"
• You type the slightly-wrong name → coins gone

2. Fake middleman

• "Use a middleman for safety" — they recommend a fake middleman
• You /pay middleman who promises to forward the funds
• Middleman vanishes

3. Switch trick during trade

• You're trading items for coins
• They ask you to /pay first as "trust"
• They never deliver the item

4. False bounty

• "Hey there's a bounty on you, /pay me 5M and I'll take it down"
• Bounties can't be removed by payment — pure scam

Safe /pay practices

Always do these:

• ✅ Triple-check the player name before pressing Enter
• ✅ Verify amount has the right number of zeros
• ✅ Only send to people you've personally verified
• ✅ For trades: receive the item BEFORE /paying
• ✅ Take screenshots of trade agreements

Never do these:

• ❌ /pay before receiving the item in a trade
• ❌ /pay strangers based on Discord DMs
• ❌ /pay middlemen unless verified server-recognized
• ❌ Trust /pay requests from "staff" — real staff don't ask

Common typo mistakes

• "donut" vs "Donut" vs "DONUT" — DonutSMP usernames are case-insensitive but Minecraft names ARE case-sensitive on display
• Extra zeros: 5,000,000 vs 50,000,000 = 9x larger payment
• Wrong digit: 1,234,567 vs 1,234,576 = transposed digits, slight loss

If you typo a too-small payment to a legit person: just /pay the difference. No harm.

If you typo a too-large payment to a legit person: ask for a refund. If they're nice, they'll send it back. If not, you're out the coins.

If you /pay a stranger by mistake: assume the coins are lost.

Tab-completion is your friend

Type /pay JohnD then press Tab → game auto-completes to the closest matching online player. Reduces typo risk significantly.

But: tab-complete also picks up similar names. If both "JohnDoe" and "JohnDoex" are online and you tab-complete after "JohnD", you might pick the wrong one. Always verify the auto-completed name.

The big-transaction protocol

For payments over 50M coins:

1. Send a tiny test first — /pay them 100 coins, confirm receipt verbally
2. Then send the full amount
3. Take a screenshot of the transaction confirmation
4. Wait for them to confirm in chat or Discord
5. For trades: complete the trade in-game rather than relying on /pay-only deals

This adds 30 seconds to a big trade but prevents 100% of major /pay scams.

What if your account gets compromised?

If someone hijacks your account and uses /pay to drain your coins:

1. Change your Microsoft password immediately
2. Enable 2FA
3. Contact DonutSMP staff (Discord) — they may be able to roll back recent /pays if you report within 24h
4. File a Microsoft account recovery if needed

DonutSMP staff CAN sometimes reverse transactions in cases of confirmed account theft. They CAN'T reverse transactions in cases of buyer's remorse or trade scams.

When /pay is safe

• Paying a verified shop (like Donut Depot) for a known purchase — they have reputation and reviews
• Paying a friend back after verbal agreement
• Tipping a player who helped you in PvE
• Splitting loot among a faction

Can I cancel a /pay? No — once sent, it's irreversible from your end.

Is there a /pay fee on DonutSMP? Usually small fee (~1%). Check with /balance before and after.
